Antibacterial Resistance in Ithaca's Drinking Water

The spread of antibiotic resistance has become a critical public health threat worldwide, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic. Recent findings show that disinfection byproducts can potentially increase antimicrobial resistance in drinking water systems. This project will investigate mechanisms for the detection of antimicrobial resistance in Ithaca's drinking water supplies. The results of the study will advance One Health by assessing antibiotic resistance hazards and improving awareness of health risks associated with drinking water disinfection.
