COP222 - Week 2 Delegates

On Friday, November 11, Cornell representatives for the second week of COP 22 joined the first week's delegation for a day of transition. In the first week, the delegation had multiple successful side events, networked at a booth in the UN Blue Zone, and attended side events and negotiations throughout the COP village. Over dinner, the second week’s delegation of seven learned the ins and outs of the COP and left prepared to hit the ground running on the the first day, which would likely be the busiest day for each of the delegates.

On Monday, we were all struck by the size of the international conference and could only imagine how big COP21 in Paris must have been. Delegates attended events focusing on loss and damage from climate change, renewable energy, observing and modeling climate from space, and carbon budgets and even networked with and attended an event led by the Moroccan Princess. Many Cornell alumni we encountered were excited to see a strong representation from Cornell at the COP, and each delegate also drew on their own personal connections to meet up with former colleagues.

With one day complete at the COP, the delegates have gotten their bearings and will continue to write in depth about meetings, side events, interesting connections, and the experience here in Marrakech!
