US Food Aid distributed in Africa

Chris Barrett (AEM), ACSF Faculty Fellow and former associate director of economic development, was the expert cited in a recent news story on food aid published in the East African, an online newspaper based in Kenya. Written in English for African and international readers, the report offers an African perspective on food insecurity in sub-Saharan Africa and future directions for food assistance.

Barrett remarks on the types of crises that may make people chronically dependent on humanitarian assistance: “The big threats over the coming decade are the ones we already face: conflict, natural disasters, and major macroeconomic disruptions.”

In other international coverage, Barrett was quoted in BBC News analysis of President Obama's proposed changes to USAID policy on cash and locally sourced food aid.
