Miguel Gómez

Cornell Atkinson Faculty Director Miguel I. Gómez is the Robert G. Tobin Professor in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, SC Johnson College of Business. He is also Faculty Director of the Food Industry Management Program, which is globally recognized as the premier food industry education and research program. He is a member of the Graduate Fields of Applied Economics, Economics, Systems Engineering, Food Science, and Latin American Studies. At Cornell Atkinson, Miguel primarily contributes to developing research-with-impact partnerships with private institutions, including international organizations.
Miguel’s research team conducts applied economic research focusing on food systems, from gene to table, to identify interventions that benefit people (consumers and workers), businesses, and the environment. This work often involves multi-disciplinary collaborations, including partnerships with external private and public organizations, to improve food supply chain economic, social, and environmental performance.
Miguel has published over 150 disciplinary and multidisciplinary academic papers, edited a Local Food Systems book, 14 book chapters, and his work has been frequently featured in radio, television, and news articles. His research program has been funded with over 120 research grants, including grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, among others. He has won several prestigious teaching and research awards, Including the Rising Star Faculty Award of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. He is member of the North American Horticulture Council and has consulted for multilateral development institutions such as the U.N Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Bank, and the Inter American Development Bank.
