Our Work

Community Engagement in Energy Transitions

The clean energy transition will only succeed if communities are part of shaping it. Rural communities in particular will host much of the infrastructure needed to power a low-carbon future, yet they are often excluded from decisions that affect their land, economies, and livelihoods.

At Cornell Atkinson, we place community engagement at the center of energy transitions research. We partner with farmers, local leaders, extension educators, policymakers, and frontline organizations to ensure clean energy deployment is not only fast, but fair and locally informed. From guiding solar siting on farmland in New York to supporting renewable energy development in rural, low-income regions, we connect research with the people and places most affected — bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world impact.
