Uncovering the Natural Climate Solution Potential of Inland Wetlands in New York State

Anthony’s Ph.D. research at the University of Washington encompassed a wide range of scientific disciplines, including remote sensing, wetland ecology, soil science, and biogeochemistry. He applied novel data science techniques, such as machine learning to further our knowledge and reveal the hidden extent of wetland carbon sequestration. To date, he has produced and collaborated on several research products, including but not limited to contributing to a review publication of remote sensing in wetland ecosystems, helping develop a new approach to identifying and mapping wetlands, giving eight oral conference presentations, and having his first chapter published in Nature Communications. He has also focused on building partnerships outside of academia to apply his science and disseminate his findings to wider audiences. For instance, he has collaborations with the Washington Departments of Ecology and Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Association of Wetland Managers. He is proud and privileged to be connected with a diverse group of science and conservation practitioners. Developing these collaborations has been critical to his development as a scientist as his career goal is to conduct scientific research that can lead to impactful action in the face of climate change.
